The Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge Cup

The Barcaldine Race Club presents the Tree of Knowledge Cup over the Labour Day Weekend at the Barcaldine Race Course annually. There are full TAB and Bookmakers available on the course, with the canteen and bar open and available.

This horse race is part of the festivities celebrating Barcaldine’s colourful past and the beautiful town it is today. There are numerous events and activities that together make up The Barcaldine Tree Of Knowledge Festival.

Barcaldine History and the Tree of Knowledge Festival

Barcaldine’s settlement began when a descendant of the Campbell’s of Barcaldine Castle in Scotland took up land on the Alice River and a railway line was constructed to the area in 1864. Barcaldine became famous in 1891 with the Great Shearers Strike which was held under the boughs of The Tree Of Knowledge, heralding the formation of the political movement we now know as the Australian Labour Party.

The Tree Of Knowledge Festival kicks off the weekend on Friday with Rugby League at the Barcaldine Showgrounds. The next day there is a Street Parade in honour of the May Day tradition, Barcaldine Showground Markets, Goat Racing heats, and Barcaldine Race Club’s Tree of Knowledge Cup at the Barcaldine Racecourse. The final day has rubber-burning Barcy Rev Fest Drag Racing at the Barcaldine Aerodrome, Ecumenical Service at Town Hall Park, and music in the park. The Festival explores this history-rich town in outback Queensland, home to the Australian Workers Heritage Centre, between the Bougainvillea’s Heritage Trail and the dozens of beautifully restored buildings.

Horseracing Traditions

Australians have a long tradition and history with horseracing. This tradition and history has been built upon the legacy of a horse racing industry that is world class. A well-developed industry, with huge international horse racing events, legendary horses and jockeys and respected breeding lines, horse racing and Australia have their histories and destinies entwined. Country racing, including a range of festivities in an eventful day, is becoming markedly popular. These festivities, such as the Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge Cup are also available online. When joining these events via the internet, use the reputable bookmakers as these facilities will be offering Australians 24/7 customer support.

Horse Betting Sense

Making sure your selected horse betting site has accredited security and is independently audited and regulated is essential too. There is nothing worse than not being able to concentrate on that feature race and last leg of the jackpot because in the back of your mind you are worried that your data or money might be at risk.

Also crucial to online horse racing enjoyment is financial convenience. A proper gambling experience should be devoid of complications when depositing or withdrawing money. There are so many online payment methods available that it is well worth your while to make sure that your selected horse racing event and bookmaker also suits your payment scheme.

The Australian Workers Union Tree of Knowledge Cup Open Handicap, as the Barcaldine Tree of Knowledge Cup is officially called, is run over 1600 metres at the Barcaldine Racecourse. The first prize is $12000. There is no class restriction, it is a handicap race with the minimum weight of 56kg and no age restrictions apply.
